🦑 HAPPY NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK!

Happy National Science Week: Celebrating science & technology!

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology.

Running each year in August, it features more than 1000 events around Australia, including those delivered by universities, schools, research institutions, libraries, museums and science centres.

These events attract a wide audience from children to adults, and science amateurs to professionals. Over one million people participate in science events across the nation.

In 2020, National Science Week has to be held in a different way, with travel restrictions and physical distancing requirements now in place to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The team at National Science Week believe that this year, more than any other, it is important to recognise the work done on our behalf by scientists, medical researchers, and health professionals, as well as the meteorologists, bushfire propagation mathematicians and others who helped the fire fighting authorities to combat the recent devastating bushfires.

Live events will be held online, and many activities will be able to be done at home by adults, children and family groups.

The school theme of National Science Week 2020 is Deep Blue: innovations for the future of our oceans and features the establishment of the Blue Economy CRC.

With this in mind, the theme embraces the innovative technologies, capabilities and skills needed to achieve economic, environmental and social sustainability of our oceans. It features insights and inquiries into workable solutions that generate healthy oceans, healthy economies and healthy communities.*

The team at National Science Week have put together an amazing Teaching Resources Book, packed with lesson plans, case studies, activity ideas and links to resources for students from Foundation through to Year 10. Click on the link below to Discover more!
