Farewell to Phil

Last month, we said goodbye to one of our long-term UNE Discovery team members. Phil Spark joined the team in the middle of 2017 and has now taken early retirement.

Phil’s smiling face has been a constant here at UNE Discovery and he truly loved visiting schools and was passionate about taking STEM play-based activities into classrooms. A published scientist with a Master’s degree in Astronomy, Phil brought his expertise and interest in the physical sciences to UNE Discovery through the Physics of Sound activity and the extremely popular Astrometrics. Phil will also be forever immortalised as the voice of the time machine in the Rocking Through Time interactive show.  Phil’s last ‘away’ trip with the UNE Discovery Voyager team was over towards the north coast visiting schools in the Kempsey/Macksville area.

We will greatly miss Phil’s easygoing nature and positive attitude, and we wish him all the best in the next phase of his life as he moves interstate to be closer to his family. We hope he knows what a massive impact he has had on UNE Discovery, the Discovery team, and thousands of students over an impressive six-year stint with UNE Discovery Voyager.

Thank you, Phil.
