01 Dec DIY: Make (and Melt) Your Own Snowman

Christmas time can be quite hot so what better way to cool off than with your very own snowman! You can even melt him right back down to beat the heat in this fun variation on a vinegar + baking soda volcano.
All you need for this experiment is:
- Bicarbonate of Soda (Bicarb Soda)
- White Vinegar
- Corn flour
- Water
- Vinegar
- Decorations for your snowman
- A baster, eyedropper, or teaspoon
Step 1: Pour equal amounts of corn flour and bicarb soda into a bowl and mix
Step 2: Add water slowly, until the mixture can be easily shaped and compacted in your hands (if you add too much water and the mixture becomes runny, just add more bicarb soda + corn flour)
Step 3: Shape! This fake snow will last up to 7-10 days in an air-tight container, and can be easily molded into a snowman, or any other winter designs.
Step 4: To shape your snowman, first transfer it to a tray or bowl and freeze for at least 1 hour
Step 5: Slowly add drops of vinegar to your snowman and watch him melt into a fizzy puddle!
Why does this work? Vinegar is an acidic substance, while bicarb soda is a base. When vinegar is added to the solid baking soda + corn flour mixture, it dissolves the solid and forms bubbles of carbon dioxide and leaves behind water and a new substance, sodium acetate.
