The Science of Soils

This activity gives students a chance to explore the complex and important world beneath our feet. Soil health is fundamental to quality sustainable food and fibre production across the globe. From the school oval to farms, mining and city development, the soil is the basis for all. In this activity students learn the processes that make soil, what lives in it and what is created from it. Getting hands on with soil and microscopes will open up an understanding of how essential healthy soils are to our own quality of life.

This activity aligns with and extends concepts and content within the K-6 Science and Technology syllabus, the 7-10 Science syllabus and the 7-10 Agricultural Technology syllabus.

The science focus aligns with the Living World and Earth and Space strands in Years K-6, and the Earth and Space strand in Years 7-10.
